Q: Diplomacy is the most effective way to ensure that Singapore can confidently meet threats and preserve her sovereignty. Do you agree? EYA...

A: No. Deterrence also plays a part for Singapore in meeting threats as seen from the Citizen armed force. As seen from the Japanese occupation and Indonesian confrontation,Singapore suffered when the british were not able to defend us and when we had to wait for the Federal Government in Kuala Lumpur to protect us. This shows us that by forming a Citizen Armed force, with local able-bodied man, it would be much safer for Singapore. This is because the army consists of locals and they would feel a sense of loyalty to the country, willing to risk their own life for their country unlike troops from pther countries who would rather put thier own nation as their priority.

Total Defence is also an important factor for Singapore in meeting threats and preserving soverighnty. As seen from the collapse of Hotel New World, many personelll of the Civil Defence force and trained Singaporeans worked together in an attempt to recue survivors and clear the area. This tells us that Singaporeans feel that they are united as one and are willing to help others together as well as the country.

However, diplomacy is also an important factor.Take the International relationship for example, the UN is an organisation tha preserves world peace and prevents major war from happening. It has already prevented many major wars from happening, such as the dispute between Iceland and Britain over scarce resources.

But, I feel that diplomacy is not the most effective way to ensure Singapore can confidently meet threats and preserve her sovereignty.

Both diplomacy and military deterrence help to prevent conflicts because diplomacy allows diffrences to be settled peacefully without using violence while deterrence plays a role in defending the country when it is under attack. Countries must therfore strengthen their diplomatic efforts with military might.

In conclusion, for diplomacy to be effective, it must be complemented by deterrence. This is the two-pronged approach to prevent and resolve international conflict. Either strategy alone is insufficient or ineffective to prevent conflict.

Love at first sight...

Someone gave me a present one day.
I opened it and saw a flash of black and white.
It was round and looked strange to me at first,
and ordinary too.
Untill someone dropped it and chasing after it.
It was then when i started playing with it, and found out all about it.
It was soccer or also known as the beautiful game.
After kicking it once,twice,thrice...
I couldn't stop.
It was too addictive and it seemed to be
love at first sight...

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am honoured to address on the issue regarding foreign talents. Singapore has been accepting foreign talent from many different countries, but few have contributed much in helping our nation.

Firstly, many foreigners have been hired to represent Singapore in various sports. However, not all of them have excelled in the highest international level.Take our soccer team for example, there are many players from different nations plying their trade here.Although they have brought home the coveted Tiger cup, they have yet to perform on the big stage and qualify for a major tournament such as the world cup. In the past, when there were no foreign players yet,Singapore had won the Tiger cup(Malaysia Cup) many times and even got closer to qualifying for the World Cupthen the modern day Singapore team. This shows that Singaporeans are not worse then foreigners.

Another point is,Foreigners have been taking up most of the jobs in Singapore. This has left Singaporeans with less job opportunities as the foreigners are also given more privelleges and benefits than the locals, causing many capable singaporeans to leave for other countries.

Hence, although Singapore is a small nation,I feel that it's people are capable of taking care of their country themselves. However, I also feel that not all foreigners are not allowed to work for Singapore but just that the locals should be given the privelleges as they are the ones who would fight and die for their own country.

Thank You.

Its been a long time since i lasted posted. Many events have taken place in this past few weeks but i just did not have the time to write any of it down. Well, but now i do have,so let me give all of u a brief explanation of what i had been doing this past few weeks. Here goes...

On the Saturday 2 weeks ago, some of the table tennis boys, including me and Nick, went to JB to have a friendly match with our 'brother school. It was quite a short trip to and from our school to theirs as it took around 2 hours to get there. As we arrived their school, we were very warmly greeted by the teachers there as well as the students, who offered us some of their local delicacies and drinks. While we ate the food that were offered to us,they also told us many jokes to lighten up the atmosphere, encouraging us all to bond together with them. Soon after, the table tennis competition started. It was going to be a match consisting of 4 singles and 2 doubles events. First up was Liang Kai, a sec 2 junior who had the skills and technique of a sec 4. All of us had high hopes of him as he was considered one of the best few players in our school. However, Liang Kai did not do as well as we had expected him to.Although all his movement and technique was correct, the ball just did not seem to be able to hit the opponents half of the table. No matter how hard he tried, the ball just would not go in.I think it was because the ball was different from the ones that we usually use. In the end he lost but we were all very proud of him as he had played very well. Next up was the first doubles consisting of Yan Jing and Sheng Hui, two singles player.Although they had never played together before, they still had plenty of chemistry between them to control tyhe whole game and overwhelm their opponents. They won the match 3-0. Jamus was the 2nd singles for team AHS and while his match went on,the doubles events started.Nick and I was the pair going up against the big boys as we heard them saying that this was an under 18 event.Wow. We had the before match jitters and could not really concentrate before the match. Hence when we started we made many mistakes. But luckily, halfway through ther first set,we gained back our rhythm and form and fought back all the points and won the set. After that, things went on pretty smoothly adn we went on to win 3-2, after making many costly mistakes.I felt that i played pretty okay but Nick performed brilliantly, forcing the opposition into many errors.

After the whole tournament,we had won 5-1.Sorry that i am unable to post about the rest of the matches as i was too tired to pay much attention to the rest of them. We played a few more friendlies with the malaysians, this time with no stress at all. At around 1 plus, we were invited to have lunch with them. The food that they prepared were filling yet delicious, one of the most enjoyable moments of the day to be able to enjoy the widespread prepared for us. After that we headed back for SINAGAPORE...

To be continued...

Phew! I managed to find time in between studying for two tests tomorrow, Chemistry and chinese spelling. I've just finished on the spelling and now for the chemistry... Its going to be a long long night...

Well, lets start from yesterday first. We had training yesterday, the most fun sport in the whole wide world especially with coach. had to do 50 "la qiu" and got quite tired after that. Could be because of the lack of practice causing me to tire so easily. However most of the training was spent on watching the girls and boys c'div basketball matches. It was partly also because of this that coach cancelled the training on thursday(Oh man!!). He said that we were all very distracted by the tournament that we could not concentrate on training. Moreover, Thursday was also the date set for the Basketball C'Div finals, according to coach, and that we would feel even more distracted. So there won't be any training on Thursday which means-SOCCER!!!

Today we had the student councillors and CCA leaders investiture. It went quite well and the dance by the councillors were great especially Matthew who danced EXTREMELY well. It looked as if he was built for dancing. HAHA.

Yeah, that seems to be all, nothing else to say already. Got to go study for the chemistry test again. Hope i do well for it.wish me luck =).(Crossing Fingers)

Nothing much happened today. But since Nick wanted me to post, I will try to thin of something.Any ideas Nick?Well ok, I have got one..

Today school proceeded as normal till SEL session. With the exception of the chinese class where Mdm Ong wasted 2 periods scolding us again and telling us that she was a good teacher...Well, i've got no comments for that. But during SEL, We were supposed to be doing the Kolam assignment as a class but it seemed to have backfired as not many participated.Leaving only the usual people to do it(im not one of them).
Eveyone was practically doing their own stuff and enjoying the air-con while the monitress and a few others were trying hard to concentrate amidst all the shouting and laughter in the room.In the end, the group of people were the ones who completed the assighnment for the class too. I sure hope that more people would participate in the activities tomorrow and not just leave everything to the small bunch of people. I feel that this project could be a fun and enriching one if everyone in the class participated and co-operated. We can only hope...and pray...

Well, after that we played soccer at Simpang. Quite a fun one and am dying to get back my scoring form after missing almost all the chances set up by my teammates. I also hope that i can find time improve on my ball control this week as it seems that i have been losing many balls and causing my teammates to lose recently. Sorry Guys...

Well thats the end of the post.Good night everyone and thanks for reading. :)

Today was a bit special but not very... Cause it was DSA selection day. Although the sec 3s did not have to attend it, me and Nick still turned up as he needed to find his table tennis bat which he lost unknowingly... Well, but luckily he found it after much worrying yesterday night. He even tried calling Coach to see if he had taken his bat! HAHA..Nice one Nick..

Enough of the nonsense. Many primary school students turned up for the selection and the number of students who attended the table tennis trials was HUGE! It was even more than what we had expected,as rumours had been going on and on about the sports class students in AHS were causing and bringing lots of troubles to the school. As the parents did not want thier child to be "influenced" by us sports people, they have been making many complaints and not considering our school as an option for their child. Hence, it is why i found it shocking when more than a hundred students went for the selection. The tryouts took quite a long time and many of us felt quite bored as all the tables were used up and there was nothing else thet we could do there. So it seemed a bit of a waste of time.

After the whole thing, we went to play a short game of soccer in the SS court with the badminton players. My team lost miserably... After that I headed off for tuition.

Yeah..Thats about it..nothing more to post already.Enjoy your weekend!
